Duolingo’s Duo-Jam !

Overview

This project was the first I was a part of at Media.Monks. Duolingo Approached Media.Monks for their ten year anniversary. Duolingo wanted to be part of the metaverse. Our goal was to bring Duolingo into the metaverse and have it be fun for all players while maintaining Duolingo’s signature brand.

Media.Monk’s case study on Duo Invades The Metaverse

My goal here was to go through the third level of our hub world and fix all the arcade cabinets and have some games within them. Which aided in the experience given to the user. As well as having some creative input on the Interface that the users sees and how it was position. My suggestion was that the timer go on the top of the screen. Which was shot down, but now I have a greater understanding of why, and how it may not be beneficial for users to have a timer on the top of the screen.

I was also tasked with going through all the other games that have been developed for the event by the independent developers, and make note of which ones were functional and launch ready. While not having tons of responsibility it was extremely rewarding to see the feedback!

Game Testing & UX/UI

What We Did

Our goal was to bring Duolingo into the Metaverse for their 10th Anniversary. What was decided on was a “Game-Jam” which is a Hub World that that teleports users to different Duolingo games made by independent developers. We received over thirty games we went with twenty four of them. Users would play other Duolingo games, earn coins, and buy event specific digital merchandise. Which was all done in Roblox Studios.

What I’ve gained from this experience is that I finally see what and how it is to work on a project with a big team. Going to daily meeting has shown me how much and laser focused a team needs to be to put together a great experience! I’m extremely grateful for that I understand what working for a big client is like as well. Being part of the making of this game was an amazing and fun experience I am so glad to be part of this. We smashed our expectations in the first week we estimated to hit 250,000 in the first few days we reached over 1 million in less than 24 hours. With no promo! I look forward to doing more projects in Media.Monks with Roblox.
