Broken Mini Games
I & other users had a constant issue with playing the mini-games in the world playing by themselves or with other users we did not receive in-game currency nor did we gain anything and a lot of the time nothing happened it felt as though all this was for show which is understandable for an early experience in the Metaverse.
Duration
3 Months of research
The Point?
The point was to pitch a Nikeland refresh on Roblox. My job as Media.Monks “Game Guy” was to research what the existing Nikeland experience could improve on and do some user testing to see what can come next from this.
World Research
As the first big brand to make a move in the Metaverse Nike was praised for the work they did. Also as the first of its kind, other creators and companies can see opportunities for one to shape their own experiences.
World Research
After doing a week of research and understanding my own opportunities for improvement, it came time start gathering questions and understandings of what users:
Want
Expect
Were disappointed with
What would make it better
My Thoughts:
From my position, I can see a few issues in Nikelands starter interface where it feels a little cluttered for users.
As well as the world feels a bit too large. The world felt a little empty for what it was/for what it could be. Also due to the large world players are able to go really fast where the focus is more on them versus the experience itself. So all the really cool and well-designed buildings and monuments are overlooked and underappreciated.
Broken Mini Games
With this structure, the users constantly are engaging with mini-games. buy UGC and the process repeats, which ends up being more time played in-game UGC works as a better ad for users on the platform and also shines a light on new and cool upcoming releases.
In conclusion
this has been a great project and it was a pleasure to do work like this I did my research and user research and was off the project at that point so I hope to see what happens after I handed it. I’m a huge fan of Nike and their work so I’m sure something cool will happen out of this
Great Qualities
I believe a feature like the rock wall was so much fun something on the brand that was not super difficult that gave the player a reward. It was an awesome feature I think Nikeland should focus on more sports game moments like this. That would make the world feel more interactive and fun.
Direction
As someone who has worked on 2 high-profile Roblox projects, you get a better understanding of Roblox games. Users want free USER-GENERATED CONTENT which usually means wearables. I’ve seen wearables in Nikeland but world exclusive if you have a new pair of Jordans for your avatar you’re gonna wanna wear it outside of the experience and show it off in multiple worlds. When it comes to the mini-games it they should be more goal-oriented shown in the user flowchart below:
Busy Interface especially on mobile
Big Empty World
The issue w/ the world size is that there is a lot of useless space and a lot of destroyed athletics fields as shown above not very thoughtful.
USER RESEARCH
So as seen above those were my findings and opinions. To really test everything out I needed to test all this out. I set this up on my own for the project I used User Testing resources. The group I used was 2 groups of 10 users. The users played Nikeland for 1 hour, we gave them open-ended an questionnaire to answer consisting of questions like:
what do you think about this experience?
How would you make it better ?
What would you want to see more? What did they do wrong?
What did they do right?
Conclusively the feedback we heard in both groups was:
Question 1: The game is boring, or I don’t know what to do. out of both groups, 20 users total of 65% said that.
Question 2: 45% specifically mentioned having more games in world. 25% wanted more selection of UGC and 35% said to make the world smaller!
Question 3: 50% Said some games don’t work in games they didn’t know it was their fault. 45% said something I didn’t expect: the track field was really funny to race on. I was shocked but users seemed to really like it.
Question 4: 60% Said Cool UGC. 40% Said the games that worked were really fun.
